Baby M’s birth

Our midwife is the one who originally recommended Josi to us.  She hadn’t met her in person yet but she had liked her and had a feeling she would be a good fit for us. When we interviewed her we were impressed by her organization, attentiveness, and approachability.

Josi was available anytime to answer questions or to offer suggestions. She even created a mock Amazon registry that we could use as an example to help build our own registry.

When we were unexpectedly admitted to the hospital to have labour induced and several overwhelming things were thrown at us at once, Josi immediately came down and stayed with us in the hospital for the next two days until our baby was born.

When I had questions regarding suggestions from hospital staff Josi was available to reassure me with advice and encouragement.

Although we had planned for a home birth and despite several things working against me, I was still able to have a natural and unmedicated birth. I truly believe that Josi played a big role in this outcome. She was our advocate, she gave us advice, and she guided me through my labour using various techniques. When something didn’t work she had something else to try. She stayed positive, patient, and encouraging throughout the entire process.

Josi kindly took pictures and video documenting the labour and birth process and promptly sent them to us within a couple days.  On her own accord, she also kept track of different milestones and took notes during the labour process for us to reference and reflect on afterwards.

The day after, she visited us in the hospital and even picked up and brought a few items that we needed for the remainder of our hospital stay.  We opted for a few extra postnatal visits and Josi willingly and cheerfully did light housework for us.  One time she even brought us a delicious home cooked meal.  In subsequent visits, she thoughtfully brought snacks she knew I loved as well as flowers in our baby’s birthstone colour.  Josi also followed up with us to see how we felt with our birth process and was there to answer or address any questions or concerns we had.

After going through my first pregnancy I cannot imagine not having a doula and Josi exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend her.  She is approachable, knowledgeable, intuitive, respectful, and genuinely cares about you and your baby’s well-being.  We love Josi and are so thankful for the important part she played in our birth story.
